Falling Castles

Even Castles made of sand, fall into the sea, eventually.”  — Jimi Hendrix

This eventuality was evident when part of Lionhead Rock fell in Minturn last year.  Those landmarks that we use to place ourselves in our environment can also change.

Thanks to the sharp eyes of John Jodire of Gypsum, it was brought to Kathy Heicher’s attention that Castle Peak has changed.

Here is Castle Peak on November 19, 2009:

Please note the changes to the eastern turret of the formation.  Thanks to Bill Heicher for photographing the before and after shots at the same location.

Falling rock being quite the seasonal phenomenon, we are reminded of other episodes in Glenwood Canyon.

Be careful out there!
