Learn about self-management techniques that empower adults with a chronic condition to more effectively manage their symptoms and make healthier choices in their daily lives. The workshop is provided once a week for six weeks. Pre-registration is required- please call the library.
Topics covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance; 3) appropriate use of medications; 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals; 5) healthy eating; 6) how to evaluate new treatments. We are offering the series completely free of charge for all participants.
Classes are highly participatory and will be facilitated by two lay leaders trained in the Stanford Chronic Disease Self-Management Program.
