Literacy
Welcome to the Literacy Project of Eagle County
The Literacy Project of Eagle County is a non-profit organization that provides free tutoring to functionally illiterate adults by training volunteers to be tutors. Since 1990, we've trained over 300 tutors and helped 400 students. Our program services include individualized tutoring for adults and middle school students and family literacy.
Our Mission
We believe that if every man, woman, and child could read, write, and comprehend our nation would be much closer to solving many of the social problems that face us. Our programs are based on the whole language philosophy of teaching which emphasizes individualized lesson plans based on social needs and using real life materials such as newspapers and job applications. Students set their own education and life goals, which include securing a job, getting a driver's license, and reading to their children. Instruction is practical, relevant to student's lives, and capitalizes on their life experience and knowledge.
