Avon Library Book Discussion posted by Amy

The Avon Library Book Discussion Group will meet Wednesday November 14th at 6:30 pm to discuss The Burning Girl by Claire Messud. Drop ins are welcome. If you have any questions please contact the Avon Library at 970-949-6797.

The relationships formed in early childhood often impacts us for our entire lives; in fact their influence may stretch beyond the length of the actual association.  Claire Messud examines one such relationship in her latest novel, The Burning Girl.  Julie and Cassie have been friends since nursery school, sharing all things and spending most of their time together.  However as they enter adolescence their paths diverge.  As their friendship begins to ebb and flow Julie begins to notice changes in Cassie and is concerned over some of the choices her friend is making, some which may actually be putting Cassie in danger.  As the girls transition from childhood games of pretend and begin to navigate the realities of adulthood they struggle to understand themselves and each other.  Compelling and at times breath taking, The Burning Girl will leave readers reflecting on the story of Julie and Cassie, as well as the friendships that have influenced them, long after the last page has been turned.
