The Immortalists posted by Robyn

New York City, 1969 introduces the Gold family – a Jewish couple with two daughters and two sons ranging from age 7 to 13.  When second oldest sibling Daniel hears of a local psychic who can reveal the dates of their deaths, the children are intrigued and sneak out to visit the mysterious woman who does these readings for free.  The ominous woman speaks with each child individually, and after telling each one what day they will die, they are distressed to the point of not wanting to talk about the event or share their death dates with one another.  The novel moves forward in time as each of the Gold siblings grows into adulthood.  Are the dates accurate?  Would they have been better off not knowing them, or does the information play to their advantage?  The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin is a fascinating family drama where four siblings react to life’s circumstances in various ways. This title is also available on audio.
