The Lying Life of Adults posted by Robyn

The Lying Life of Adults is an aptly named coming of age story told through the eyes of Giovanna, a 12-year-old girl living with her parents in Naples, Italy.  Giovanna overhears her beloved father compare her looks to his estranged sister Vittoria.  Giovanna has never met her spinster aunt, but has heard a few accounts from her parents of how miserable and spiteful she is.  She is determined to meet Vittoria, so that she can see what her future face might look like.  Aunt and niece develop a relationship which will cause a chain reaction of events over the next four years.  This unique and compelling story with lively characters was written by Italian author Elena Ferrante before being translated into English.  It is also available in audio.
