Skipping Christmas posted by Robyn

Best-selling author John Grisham stepped out of his usual writing many years ago when he offered Skipping Christmas, a quirky and funny tale of a family who decides to skip rituals, traditions and expenses of the holiday season for one year.  Luther Krank is the polar opposite of Christmas Vacations’ Griswold.  He is more the “Bah Humbug” variety, and would like to save time and energy by forgoing the Christmas decorations, shopping and hoopla.  So he persuades wife Nora to skip Christmas, much to the neighborhood’s dismay.  The Kranks decide to spend their money travelling on a Caribbean cruise at Christmas, but the resistance they meet from their neighbors in breaking with their tradition makes for a comical and heartwarming read.  This short tale continues to be a holiday classic almost 20 years later, and was also adapted into a major motion picture, Christmas with the Kranks, starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis.  This movie is available at the library on DVD.
