The Unquiet Dead introduces team of detectives Esa Khattak and Rachel Getty. Esa is a practicing Muslim and the head of Canada’s new Community Policing Section. His partner Rachel is the daughter of a former police supervisor, and she continues to be on the lookout for her younger brother who disappeared many years ago. Esa and Rachel are assigned a case where a local man has fallen from a cliff, and their job is to insure that this was not an accident. Suspicions arise when they discover that the deceased was a notorious war criminal who was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Bosnian Muslims in the 1990s. As they interview neighbors and acquaintances of the deceased, including his fiancée and her daughters, their investigation takes some unexpected turns as they get closer to the truth. The Unquiet Dead is the first title in the critically acclaimed Rachel Getty and Esa Khattak series. The fourth novel in this series, A Dangerous Crossing, was recently released.
In the fantasy novel The Bloodprint, we meet Arian and Sinnia. These two young women are skilled warriors who are knowledgeable in the Claim, a magic power derived from a sacred scripture. The novel begins as they break a Talisman slave chain, while searching for clues and weapons as they battle the One-Eyed Preacher, a cruel man who seeks world domination over women. Arian and Sinnia soon find themselves on a quest for the Bloodprint, an endangered text considered to possess dangerous and powerful knowledge, where they will find the answers they need to stop him. Their mission proves to be a perilous journey, as they meet several communities of people they are not sure they can trust. The women are joined by two allies -one is a young, unnamed former slave boy who initially mistrusts them but has nowhere else to go. The more crucial companion is Daniyar, a man whom Arian shares a history with – he was her confidant and sword master, and he continues to be someone she cannot get out of her thoughts. The Bloodprint is Book One of the anticipated Khorasan Archives quartet, and is a spirited tale of fantasy, intrique, adventure, love, and heroism. It includes a map, cast of characters, and glossary – storytelling at its very best!
