White Ivy posted by Robyn

White Ivy by Susie Yang is both a coming-to-America and coming-of-age story featuring Ivy Lin, a Chinese immigrant who is reunited with her parents in Massachusetts at the age of 7.  Ivy is also close to her grandmother, who teaches her the art of shoplifting.  Ivy is an outsider at school, and yearns for golden boy Gideon Speyer, from a well to do family.   Years later Ivy works out a way to reacquaint with Gideon, and eventually finds herself dating this man of her dreams.  She is also revisited by Roux, a reckless boy from her past who has made a name for himself financially.  But family, culture, and friendship reveal that dreams don’t always play out the way one expects.  Ivy has choices to make which will make a drastic impact on her life – she must take matters into her own hands to get what she wants.  This is a compelling read and a story that will stay with the reader long after turning the last page.  This title is also available in audio.
